Bundle and Save! Our Interactive CVC spelling, reading & writing activities are designed to help you confidently teach letter sounds, phonics, digraphs, blending and segmenting

Our CVC spelling packs make learning to read, write and spell fun and engaging and can be used in the classroom, for homeschooling or as spelling homework printables. They are designed to help you better understand how our language is constructed and to teach tricky spelling concepts.

They are a 'must have' for every parent, teacher or speechie and are perfect for keeping kids engaged and learning through play as they interact with the reusable CVC spelling, reading & writing activities.

The stages begin by exploring CVC words and common consonant digraphs followed by CVCC, CCVC and CCVCC words. NOTE: The CCVC pack addresses the tricky to hear second sound and the CVCC pack covers the tricky to hear second last sound which are often stumbling blocks for many early readers.

Stages 6 through to 8 covers vowel digraphs and includes extensive lists of short vowel digraphs, long vowel digraphs and r controlled vowel digraphs.

Finally, Stage 9 covers the rest of the tricky consonant digraphs and also includes schwa sounds.

Stage 0 - Phonics Spelling and Digraphs Reference Guides

Stage 1 - Letter Sounds and CVC Words

  • Consonant sounds like b, c, d, f, g, h etc
  • Short vowel sounds like a, e, i, o, u
  • Letter Sounds (phonics) like a for apple, not the letter names like i as in ice
  • CVC Words (consonant-vowel-consonant): cat, bet, kit, rot, mum

Stage 2 - Consonant Digraphs and CVC Words 

  • Digraphs th/th, sh, ch, ck, wh, ng, ph, qu 
  • CVC Words

Stage 3 - CCVC Words with Digraphs

  • Consonant consonant combinations for the start of words - cl, bl, gl, pl, sl, fl etc
  • CCVC Words and hearing the second sound

Stage 4 - CVCC Words with Digraphs

  • Consonant consonant combinations for the end of words - st, sk, sp, nd, nt, nk etc
  • CVCC Words and hearing the second last sound

Stage 5 - CCVCC Words with Digraphs

  • Practise and consolidate everything learned in the first 4 stages

Stage 6 - Short Vowel Digraphs

  • Like e (red), ea (bread), u (bury), a (many), ie (friend) etc
  • Same vowel sounds can be spelled in many different ways - the long vowel 'a' sound can be spelled with ay, ai, a_e, ey, ea, a, iagh, au, eigh, ei or et digraphs
  • Understand that some vowel digraphs are spelled the same but they make different sounds, like 'er' in her vs 'er' in tiger or 'oo' in cook, moon, school and brooch

Stage 7 - Long Vowel Digraphs

  • Like oa (coat), ow (bow), ew (sew), oe (toe), o_e (rope) etc

Stage 8 - R Controlled Vowel Digraphs

  • Like ar (car), al (palm), a (koala), ear (heart), au (laugh) etc

Stage 9 - Extended Consonant Digraphs & Alternate Spellings

  • Like j (jug), g (gem), dge (bridge), ge (sausage) etc
  • Consonant sounds can be spelled in many different ways - the 'ch' sound can be spelled with ch, tch, te digraphs or with the letter t like in Tuesday, truck, tree etc
