Why Are Prepositions So Important

WHAT ARE PREPOSITIONS?

Prepositions are directional instruction words that allow us to give specific and meaningful instructions to others.

They also allow us to follow instructions correctly.

Examples:
✅ on top | underneath
✅ top | bottom
✅ left | middle | right
✅ before | after
✅ infront | behind
✅ in | out

WHY ARE PREPOSITIONS IMPORTANT?

If children don't understand the meaning of these directional instruction words (prepositions), they are never going to correctly follow instructions!

Imagine asking your child
'Can you please get me an apple. It's in the fridge on the top shelf, behind the milk'.

In order to get a result other than 'I can't see it' (🤦‍♀️🤯), your child will need to understand what these directional words; in, top and behind, mean.
